Nizamabad police put on alert

Two legislators in Nizamabad district had faced threats from Maoists during the peak movement earlier
Nizamabad: The police has sounded a high alert in Nizamabad district following the kidnap of TRS leaders by CPI-Maoists in Khammam district.
Senior cops have directed officials to take up precautionary measures in the district. Vehicle checking has started and metal detectors are being set up at important places. Elected representatives, especially TRS leaders who might be on the extremists’ hit list, have been advised to be careful while visiting their native places.
Two legislators in Nizamabad district had faced threats from Maoists during the peak movement earlier. Naxalite Information Bureau (NIB) activities will be intensified soon, a police officer said.
Meanwhile, security is also being beefed up at police stations at places that were affected by extremism in the past. Since 2005, there has been no movement of extremists in Nizamabad district, but the cops are taking all precautions.
