More jobs on offer to IIT-Madras graduates
Of the 291 companies, over 100 are startups offering more than 170 job profiles
Chennai: More jobs are on offer for students from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras this year. The placement will begin with a positive note this year as over 400 job profiles are on offer so far for students as compared to 305 last year.
Professor Babu Viswanathan, adviser, (training and placement), IIT-Madras said that about 1,300 students (B.Tech, B.Tech (dual), M.S. & Ph.D) have registered for placement and 291 companies have registered to take part in the recruitment process with over 400 job profiles.
Of the 291 companies, over 100 are startups offering more than 170 job profiles. Last year about 205 companies had laid out 305 job profiles. The salary package in startups has gone up by five to 10 per cent this year, the adviser says.
An increase in salary package across all sectors this year is also being seen, he added. About 20 students have deferred their placements this year in order to pursue higher studies or take up entrepreneurship.
“Last year too we had a similar number of students who deferred their placement,” Professor Viswanathan said. Microsoft, Google Research, Goldman Sachs, Boston Consulting Group and Oracle are some of the companies that will recruit students on day 1 (December 1) of placements this year.
The job profiles the companies have offered to students include research & development, data analyst, software engineer and design engineers. Industry experts say lot of new age companies and product companies are competing with the existing services companies resulting in a lot more job offers, not only for IITians but also for engineering college students too.
