Police busts PDS rice racket, 24 arrested
Police busted the racket after tracking the trucks on the outskirts for a month
Hyderabad: The Cyberabad Special Operations (SOT) team busted a Public Distribution System (PDS) rice racket by arresting 24 persons including ration shop dealers and rice mill owners.
The cops seized 455 quintals of PDS rice and 1,000 litres of kerosene worth about Rs 11.5 lakh and Rs 3,66,790. The gang was operating in Keesara, Bala Nagar, Medipally, Uppal and Shamshabad. The rice was diverted by the gang from various stock points, police said.
The SOT busted the racket after conducting raids and tracking the trucks on the city’s outskirts for a month. “The teams raided illegal godowns located on the outskirts and tracked their vehicle. Five cases have been booked regarding this in various police stations in Cyberabad commissionerate,” a senior SOT official said
The police also seized two trucks, a van and an autorickshaw trolley from the gang. However, 34 offenders, mainly middlemen, are absconding. “Efforts are on to apprehend them. We are also maintaining surveillance on the arrested persons to prevent them from engaging in more crimes,” said the officer.
