KCR’s decisions prompt new Opposition attack
Hyderabad: The Opposition has criticised Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s decision to invite tenders for all re-designed irrigation projects from December and ordering the irrigation department to release funds to contractors directly, bypassing the finance department to avoid delays. Opposition leaders said it was not proper for the government to take up re-designing of the projects without convincing the people on the need for the exercise.
“We have our reservations on the so-called re-designing of projects. The CM had promised to discuss the issue with all political parties and other sections of society and explain the need to take up huge projects with massive financial outlays. He has not honoured his commitment, which gives rise to suspicions,” said BJP state president G. Kishan Reddy.
Congress MLC Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy said, “KCR’s decision to divert expenditure to the irrigation department by bypassing the finance department is new. Today he is doing it for the irrigation projects, tomorrow he may order that payments for the Water Grid will be made by the panchayat raj department that is looked after by his son K.T. Rama Rao. If individual departments are exempted, the finance ministry which is accountable for public expenditure will become non-existent.”
