V Muraleedharan on way out, PK Krishnadas not keen
P.K. Krishnadas and Sobha Surendran are most likely to be nominated
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: BJP national leadership has decided to nominate a new president for Kerala. Prakash Javadekar, Union minister for environment, told a press meet in New Delhi that those leaders who had completed two terms have to step down, implying that the incumbent state president V. Muraleedharan has to leave.
BJP national executive council members P.K. Krishnadas and Sobha Surendran are most likely to be nominated in a couple of weeks by national BJP president Amit Shah.
National BJP leadership decided not to hold organisational elections in poll-bound states including Kerala and Assam.
On Saturday, Mr. Javadekar announced Sarbananda Sonowal, Union minister of state for sports and youth welfare as its new Assam chief.
Mr Javadekar said since Mr Muraleedharan was on the verge of completing his second term in December, a new party chief will lead the party in the Assembly elections due in April.
“We have decided not to hold elections for the State party president in Kerala. National BJP president will nominate the new state chief,” he said.
It is not clear whom Amit Shah will choose from Krishnadas and Sobha Surendran. RSS state secretary and Prantha Karyavahak P. Gopalankutty Master has recommended these two leaders leaving the ball in the court of Mr Shah.
If the national BJP leadership is keen to see someone above factional politics at the helm, then Ms Surendran would come up trumps.
Sources close to Mr Krishnadas told DC that he is not keen to have one more term and is happy being the national executive council member with an additional charge of Telangana.
