Textbook woes linger as second term gets over
It was Kerala Books and Publications Society (KBPS) which was entrusted with the printing of the books
Thiruvananthapuram: Even though the general education department claims that the second volume of textbooks have been distributed completely, many of the books to be distributed in the first phase have not reached schools.
Almost half the term is over with Christmas examinations scheduled between December 10 and December 18. Many students are finding it difficult to understand what is being taught in classes due to the lack of textbooks. As per the claims, the printing of the second volume of textbooks for Classes I to X has been completed in a time-bound manner.
It was Kerala Books and Publications Society (KBPS) which was entrusted with the printing of the books. A total of Rs 1.25 crore textbooks were printed and directly distributed by KBPS to government and aided schools. However, there were complaints that some schools did not get all the books in the first volume itself.
Meanwhile, the activists of Yuva Morcha gheraoed the office of the additional DPI’s office here on Saturday. Yuva Morcha state president P. Sudheer while speaking to reporters said that education minister P.K. Abdu Rabb was deliberately delaying the distribution of the textbooks to help private publishers. He also warned that they would block the education minister if the textbooks were not distributed to schools before Tuesday.
