Kerala to take call on need for CBI probe

K. Muraleedharan said the government should discuss and decide on whether to hand over the bar scam case to the CBI or not
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Congress MLA K. Muraleedharan has demanded that the Government take an appropriate decision on whether it should seek a CBI enquiry into the bar scam after holding discussions. He was responding to the High Court’s observation that CBI should conduct the probe.
Mr Muraleedharan expressed his appr-ehension about a CBI probe saying that it did not have the same reputation as it used to have once and political interference could occur in central investigation too.
K. Muraleedharan said the government should discuss and decide on whether to hand over the bar scam case to the CBI or not.
“The CBI has shortcomings. The Central agency doesn’t have the credibility it used to enjoy before. It also comes under political pressure. The government will decide on whether the Vigilance should take up the case or the CBI,” said Mr Muraleedharan.
Regarding allegations against excise minister K. Babu in the bar scam case, Mr Muraleedharan said investigations were going on and he would comment on it later. He said chances of influencing the investigation was high when the probe was on and hence reserved his comments further.
