Hyderabad to host Rockathon on Sunday
Hyderabad: The fourth edition of Hyderabad Rockathon will be held on Sunday, at the rocks around the nearly 400-years-old Ghar-e-Mubarak dargah at Bairagiguda, located behind the historic Taramati Baradari.
The event is being held by Great Hyderabad Adventure Club and Society to Save Rocks. The rockathon will be open for participants as young as six years of age. The events at the rockathon will include rock walk, rappelling, zip lining, treasure hunts, a rock quiz, photography, rock balancing and rock drawing. The rockathon is being held to sensitise people about the importance of preservation and protection of rocks as they play an important role in conserving ground water. The Deccan rocks are stated to be over 2,500-million-years old.
The GHAC estimates that over 500 rock enthusiasts and adventure lovers will turn up at the events. The event is being sponsored by Telangana Tourism and will be inaugurated by tourism minister Azmeera Chandulal.
