Central nod to be sought to prosecute T O Sooraj
The report listed buildings and land assets within Kerala and outside in the name of Sooraj and his family members
KOCHI: The state government will seek the permission of the Union Government to prosecute former Public Works Department secretary T. O. Sooraj in the case connected with amassing wealth beyond his known sources of income.
The Ernakulam Vigilance special cell had submitted a fact-finding report to the Vigilance director in the first week of October stating that Sooraj had illegal wealth to the tune of Rs 11.84 crore.
After examining the report, the VACB director passed on the report to the government recommending prosecution measures against the former civil services official.
Sooraj’s income in 2004-14 was estimated to be Rs 3 crore. According to the report submitted by Vigilance special cell SP K. M. Tomy, Sooraj had wealth of Rs 15 crore during the period.
The report listed buildings and land assets within Kerala and outside in the name of Sooraj and his family members.
The assets of Sooraj based on the market valuation prevailing in the area amounted to Rs 30 crore, the report pointed out.
The valuation of certain property units of Sooraj was made with the help of the Central Public Works Department.
