BBMP to act tough against illegal hawkers, seize ware
Bengaluru: In order to put an end to unauthorised hawkers’ menace in BBMP shopping complexes, the members of Standing Committee (Market) have decided to seize the products sold by such hawkers.
During an inspection on Saturday, the members found that free movement of visitors in Jayanagar Shopping Complex and K.R Market was obstructed by some of the shopkeepers and hawkers. In Jayanagar, the Committee noticed that towards the entrance of the complex (East gate), shoe sellers had displayed their products, hampering the pathway for visitors. The committee members stressed that though these shop owners were instructed not to obstruct free movement inside the complex, they refused to oblige.
Noticing the violation, the Committee members instructed a squad to seize all the products displayed in encroached area. However, when the squad proceeded to seize the products, the owners protested on the spot.
Later, they urged the Committee to give them more time. In response to their request, the Committee members said that they were willing to give more time, but unauthorised hawkers should not be allowed inside the shopping complex henceforth.
