Police suspect that the parents dumped the infant as she was a girl

Hyderabad: A four-day-old child was abandoned by the roadside in Vanasthalipuram. The infant was found alive in a travel bag on a footpath near Sagar Crossroads by a pedestrian in the morning. The police shifted the girl child to hospital and doctors said that she was is a healthy state.

N. Mahesh, an autorickshaw driver from the area stopped his vehicle after he saw a bag on the footpath at around 6 am. When he approached the bag he heard a baby crying.

“The bag was half opened when the rickshaw driver found it. He informed us. The parents abandoned the baby one or two hours before Mahesh found her,” said Vanasthalipuram inspector B. Pushpan Kumar.

Police suspect that the parents dumped the infant as she was a girl.

“We have now shifted the baby to the children’s home at Ameerpet,” the inspector said, adding that a probe had been launched to find the parents.
