Last year Artcurial set a new world record for a comic strip when it sold for 2.1 million euros
Paris: A drawing by Belgian comic book legend Herge from "Tintin in the Congo" fetched 770,600 euros ($820,000) at auction on Saturday, Artcurial said.
The India ink, pencil and gouache drawing for the third plate in the 1937 comic album had been valued at between 300,000 and 500,000 euros, the Paris auction house said.
The buyer was present at the auction and snapped up the drawing after an initial bidding war by between two European collectors making bids by phone.
Last year Artcurial set a new world record for a comic strip when it sold a double page of drawings created by Herge for the inside cover of the Tintin adventure series, used from 1937 to 1958, for 2.1 million euros.
