Government General Hospital performs 100 bypass surgeries in eight months

These 100 bypass surgeries were performed in eight months since March this year

Guntur: Government General Hospital (GGH) at Guntur created record by completing 100 bypass surgeries on Friday.

GGH Guntur is the only government hospital where bypass surgeries are conducted free of cost under public-private partnership (PPP) in AP with the cooperation of Sahrudaya Trust. The team of the doctors led by famous cardiothoracic surgeon Dr A.G.K. Gokhale have successfully performed 100th bypass surgery to B. Nageswara Rao on Friday. These 100 bypass surgeries were performed in eight months since March this year.

Guntur district collector Kantilal Dande praised Sahrudaya Health, Medical and Educational Trust (SHMET) and the GGH doctors for working together to provide corporate treatment to the people in the government hospital. He hoped that the GGH would become the main hospital of the state and added that AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, after visitant the GGH, has recently sanctioned Rs 4 crore and these funds would be used for the development of the hospital.

Dr Gokhale said that SHMET will continue its services in the GGH and would start heart transplantation facility from December. He added that first they planned to conduct two bypass surgeries per week, but there is great demand from the people. Hence, they increased the number of surgeries. He thanked the team of doctors and officials of the GGH for their cooperation for the successful completion of 100 bypass surgeries.

Mr Dande and GGH superintendent Dr Raju Naidu felicitated Dr Gokhale and the doctors of his team on the occasion.
