GHMC chief summoned
Failure to act on illegal building angers bench
Hyderabad: Expressing dismay with the negligence of authorities in preventing illegal constructions, Justice C.V. Nagarjuna Reddy of the Hyderabad High Court on Friday ordered the GHMC commissioner to appear before the court to explain actions being taken on those who had allowed an illegal construction in the Feelkhana area of the city.
The judge was dealing with a petition by one Bal Mukund Misra, a resident of Feelkhana, seeking action against the authorities for not acting on his complaint and also to declare the construction of a building by one Purushottam Vyas as illegal and against Zoning Regulations and Building Rules. The petitioner told the court that the landowner obtained permission for construction of Groun-d+1 floor, but had built a cellar and G+4 on 186.74 sq. yds.
The judge said, “The landowner has added four extra floors with impunity. I am unable to comprehend as to what the officials of the GHMC had been doing till the construction of the building, in utter violation of the building plan, was almost complete.” In view of the extraordinary facts of this case, the GHMC commissioner was directed to be present and explain the abject inertia, inaction and indifference being displayed by the Corporation in curbing the illegal constructions.
