Bad roads: N R Ramesh files complaints

Potholes have appeared on most of the roads because of substandard works

BENGALURU: Former BJP ruling party leader in the BBMP N.R. Ramesh has filed a complaint with the Lokayukta and Bengaluru Metropolitan Task Force (BMTF) against shoddy road works and alleged squandering of public money by contractors, in connivance with engineers.

Mr Ramesh said on Friday that a whopping Rs 1,218 crore has been spent for asphalting 1706 km of roads in the city over the last one year. But already, potholes have appeared on most of the roads because of substandard works and poor monitoring by the BBMP and Karnataka Rural Infrastructure Development Limited (KRIDL), he said.

The BBMP is further spending Rs 600 crore to fill potholes, splurging the tax-payers’ money, he said. It is BBMP’s duty to ensure that the contractors maintain roads for a minimum of two years and
maximum of three years under defect liability clause in the contracts he said.
