ASCI staff demands probe
Staff is demanding a probe to ascertain the fairness of the procedures followed in appointments
Hyderabad: Even as the high-profile Court of Governors (CoG) of the Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI) is set to meet on Saturday to elect a new chairman, the staff there is demanding a probe to ascertain the fairness of the procedures followed in appointments. ASCI CoG chairman S.M. Datta had submitted his resignation a few days ago. Director general Ravi Kant and the registrar Kalyan K. Roy were appointed during the tenure of S.M. Datta. A former West Bengal cadre IAS officer, Ravi Kant was brought in as the DG by surpassing several senior bureaucrats.
The ASCI employees’ union has been taking strong objection to the appointments made in the institution. ASCI’s chairman emeritus M Narsimham, who is a former RBI governor and grandson of the first President Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, is reportedly chairing the extraordinary session of CoG on Saturday.
The registrar, who had gone to his hometown on the day the chairman resigned, extended his leave on health grounds and is expected to take part in the extraordinary CoG meet. Meanwhile, a complaint of sexual harassment filed by one of faculty members against a senior functionary has raised a furore too.
