Priyanka Chopra to play astronaut Kalpana Chawla?
Mumbai: She wowed us over with her portrayal of boxer Mary Kom, now, Priyanka Chopra's next film might just send her into outer space! Rumours are rife that the ‘Bajirao Mastani’ actress has been approached for the proposed biopic on late Indian astronaut Kalpana Chawla.
Accoring to reports, Priyanka has been approached to play the leading lady in the film, but will only commit to it once she is back from her 'Quantico' shoot in America. If Priyanka gives the project her nod, this will be the first Bollywood film to explore the genre of space themed films. Apart from putting on a space suit for a film, the star will have to live up to the task of portraying the small town Haryana girl, who became India’s first astronaut to go to space.
Kalpana spent 31 days, 14.54 hours in space. Kalpana along with a crew of seven astronauts died in the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster which occurred on February 1, 2003, when the Space Shuttle disintegrated over Texas during re-entry into the Earth's atmosphere, with the death of all seven crew members, shortly before it was scheduled to conclude its 28th mission.
