The name is Mitchell, rest is pace legacy

The retirement of Johnson opens the gate for Starc – the new star

Mumbai: The retirement of Mitchell Johnson is the start of a new era in Australian cricket. The left-arm bowler – with two world Cup wins – left a legacy that is in safe hands. Why? Meet Mitchell Starc – the new magician of seam bowling in world cricket.

Another lanky, tall, left-arm speedster with pace and a bag of swing and pace has a job at hand.

He can clock 150 kph and also, the perfect yorker. Every world class team need a strike bowler, a spearhead and Starc was already in the making during the ICC World Cup 2015.

He strengthened, worked hard and took shape after Shane Warne called him ‘soft’ and if criticisms can make superstars, the bowlers wouldn’t mind.

With 22 wickets, in eight games in the mega event, Starc announced his arrival and there could not be a better time for him to step up and take the mantle of being his team’s go-to man.

The 25-year-old bowled at an average of 10.18 in the World Cup that included a lethal spell of 6/28 against New Zealand in Auckland.

Even in the Ashes, he took 18 wickets in five Tests, and put up a tough fight, matching the likes of Stuart Broad and James Anderson. Starc stands out among the rest for his ability to do well in all three formats of the sport.

To add to that, he has remained injury-free so far.

Watch out for him.
