Telangana: No power cuts this summer

He said Rs 6,152 crore would be spent to strengthen the network and generate more power

Hyderabad: There will be no power cuts in summer as officials of state distribution companies are making arrangements to meet the estimated power demand of 174 million units per day in March 2016.

Southern Discom chairman and MD G. Raghuma Reddy said they are making arrangements to supply 9-hour power to the agricultural sector after March 2016. “We will be ready to supply 9-hour power and Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao will take a decision on the date,” he said.

The state has 1.23 crore electricity consumers, of which 89 lakhs are domestic, 21 lakhs agricultural and the rest HT and others.

He said Rs 6,152 crore would be spent to strengthen the network and generate more power. The target is to achieve 24,075 MW generation capacity by the end of 2018, he added.

After ensuring that there are no power cuts the focus is now on improving customer services and attending to problems.

“We are in touch with software company Accenture to prepare a software to send SMSes to all consumers about monthly bills, due dates and payments. We will also work on sending SMS alerts if emergency shutdowns have to be undertaken for more than two hours,” he said.
