Smriti Irani lauds working women for balancing professional and household responsibilities

The society, in which a working woman is healthy, can only attain progress, says Irani

New Delhi: Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani on Friday lauded working women for balancing professional and household responsibilities, and stressed on their betterment for progress of society.

Addressing a women conference, themed 'Working Women and Social Responsibilities' and organised by MTNL Mazdoor Sangh affiliated to Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS), Irani exhorted women to be health conscious for a better society.

"We need to understand, if we take little care of ourselves, it is (like) taking care of our family and society. The society, in which a working woman is healthy, can only attain progress. You are the support system of the society. If the foundation is weak, it doesn't take much of time for a building to come down," the Union minister said.

Lauding working women for managing both professional and household responsibility, Irani said, "Women should respect each other, especially those who scale heights on the back of their talent. Don't criticise them. It will be like insulting their talent. Already, there are so many others there to snub them."

The event was attended by BMS general secretary Virjesh Upadhyay among others.
