Kin of 2 brain-dead victims donate 12 organs

Donors died in separate mishaps; organs were donated to Jeevandhan
Hyderabad: A total of 12 organs were donated to the Jeevandan scheme of the government on Thursday by the family members of two brain-dead patients .
One of the donors, Kanchan Singh, 36, met with an accident on November 6 and suffered a severe head injury. She was rushed to the intensive care unit and emergency surgery was performed on her but she did not recover. After doctors declared her brain dead, her family donated her two kidneys, two cornea, two heart valves and a liver to the government-run scheme.
The second donor, Adinarayan Murthy Peddisetty, 52, a miller from Medak, met with an accident at Muttiamuguda at Patancheru on November 15.
Despite treatment, his condition deteriorated and he lapsed into coma. Doctors later declared him brain dead. His family agreed to donate his two kidneys, two corneas and a liver to the scheme of the government.
Kanchan Singh's father, Mr R. Kiran Singh, said, “We agreed to donate the organs as we felt we could help those who are struggling to live a quality life. We tried our best to save her but when the doctors explained that it was not possible, we thought her organs will help to save four or five lives.”
Post donation, the family is trying to draw solace from the fact that she is living in the world and is a part of five people, said her brother, Mr Kunal Kiran Singh.
Alekhya, the daughter of Adinarayan Peddisetty, told this newspaper: “We tried to save my father but as he lapsed into coma. We thought if he could give others a chance, we must look at that option. We went ahead only for that reason. That someone somewhere is benefiting is a big solace to us in this hour of grief.”
All the 12 organs have been used in Hyderabad for patients who were in the waiting list.
