DYFI yatra to counter Vellapally Natesan

Sources said the Left parties are not taking the samatva yatra lightly

Thiruvananthapuram: With the BJP-Sangh Parivar making a serious bid to gain a foothold in the state with the backing of a section of community organisations, the DYFI has geared up to take them on politically and ideologically.

The DYFI's current Kerala Secular Yatra from from northern and southern tips of the state, is aimed at neutralising the impact of Kerala Samatva Yatra being led by SNDP general secretary Vellapally Natesan from Kasargod on November 23.

The DYFI is of the view that BJP and Sangh Parivar are trying to misguide the people by raising social justice slogan. With a cross section of organisations representing various Hindu communities taking part in the yatra, the Left youth organisations believe that there would be an attempt to attract people by raising slogans like minority appeasement, neglect of majority community and pseudo secularism.

Sources said the Left parties are not taking the samatva yatra lightly. With the BJP and Sangh Parivar behind SNDP’s move to unite various Hindu outfits in the state, the Left believes that through the yatra they want to create a conducive atmosphere ahead of next Assembly.

The Left parties are wary of BJP-Sangh Parivar-SNDP agenda since religious polarisation would pose a big threat to secular ethos of the state.

It is in this context that DYFI is invoking Swami Vivekananda, Sree Narayanan Guru, Ayyankali and Chattambi Swami widely to remind people that the views of these social reformers were diametrically opposite to Sangh Parivar’s ideology.

DYFI also chose Aruvippuram as the starting point for southern leg of rally to send across this message.

With both the rallies running almost parallel, the state is all set to witness a major debate on issues ranging from communalism, minority appeasement, social justice and development.

Both the rallies will culminate on December 5 with mega public meetings by DYFI in Kochi and SNDP led front in Thiruvananthapuram. It goes without saying that the two events will push the state into Assembly election mode.
