Congress to hold brainstorm meet

4-day session on poll debacle from Nov 23

Kochi: With the civic poll debacle shaking the confidence of the party for an assured return to power after the Assembly elections, the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) has called for a marathon four-day introspective session from November 23.

The meet will also discuss the strategies to be adopted for the Assembly elections, scheduled for April-May next year.

The party will take up for discussion a report 14 senior leaders are now preparing on the party’s performance in the civic body elections and would submit before November 21.

The KPCC has invited office-bearers at the district and block levels, district level office-bearers of feeder organisations and elected representatives for the meet with scheduled time for each districts. KPCC president V M Sudheeran, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala are expected to attend the meet.

The leaders who are deputed to the districts are P Ramakrishnan (Kasaragod), M M Hassan (Kannur), V A Narayanan (Wayanad), Sooranad Rajasekharan (Kozhikode), K P Kunhikkannan (Malappuram), K P Anil Kumar (Palakkad), Bharatheepuram Sasi (Thrissur), P M Suresh Babu (Ernakulam), Babu Prasad (Kottayam), M Liju (Idukki), N Peethambara Kurup (Alappuzha), T Sarat Chandra Prasad (Pathanamthitta), V D Satheesan (Kollam) and Johnson Abraham Thiruvannthapuram.

The KPCC has instructed the leaders to interact with functionaries of the party and feeder organisations at all levels and evaluate the reasons for the set back the party has had in the elections. The civic polls virtually ended the winning streak the UDF has been enjoying since the 2009 Lok Sabha elections.

The front won the 2010 civic body elections, 2011 Assembly elections, 2014 Lok Sabha elections and all the bye-elections in the last five years.

However, the LDF reversed this trend and wrested most of the city corporations, municipalities as well as three-tier panchayat councils.
