Bengaluru: Two business management students were killed on the spot while three others suffered injuries while they were returning home after a birthday party in a car which lost control and collided with a tree on Anekal–Chandapura road in the early hours of Wednesday.
The deceased have been identified as Dhruva, 20, and Ashwin 20, while the injured were Anjum Ahmed, 20, Krishnan K., 20, and Pruthvi Reddy, 20, all of them second year students pursuing Bachelor of Business Management at Alliance University, the police said. While Anjum Ahmed continues to remain in the ICU suffering critical injuries, two others have been shifted to ward where they are said to be out of danger, said the staff from Sparsh Hospital.
According to the police, the victims are native of Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu and few among them were residing in the VBHC Apartments in Anekal. The accident occurred while the five of them were returning to the apartment after celebrating Krishnan’s birthday, said the police. On Wednesday night, the five of them had gone to Krishnan's house in Chandapura to celebrate his birthday.
After the party, around 4.30 a.m., the students decided to get back to their apartment. Krishnan agreed to drop them back in a car and as they were nearing Anekal, Krishnan, who was driving the car in an inebriated state, lost control of the vehicle. He rammed the car into a Eucalyptus tree at about 5:00 a.m. close to the VBHC Apartments. The impact was such that even the tree broke, the police said.
Dhruva and Ashwin were crushed within the mangled car and died on the spot, while the others were pulled out by a few passers-by and rushed to a nearby hospital. Dhruva and Ashwin were declared brought dead at the hospital while the three injured students were shifted to Sparsh Hospital later. The bodies of the deceased were then shifted to Victoria Hospital for post-mortem, the police said. “It was found that the students were in an inebriated state in the car including the one who was driving,” said a police officer adding that we are yet to ascertain to whom the Swift car bearing registration number RJ19-CD-2363 belonged to," said a senior police officer.
The police have informed the family members of the students about the accident and they are on their way to the city. Anjum Ahmed’s father has to come from abroad, said the police.
Students from Alliance University were seen mourning the death of their two friends at the Victoria morgue and number of them visited their three injured friends at the Sparsh Hospital. Anekal police have registered a case of accidental death caused by rash and negligent driving and are further investigating.
