Judging children’s films is not an easy job: Satish Kaushik

Filmmaker Satish Kaushik talks about the quality of films in this year’s children’s film festival and how tough it is to be on the jury

The 19th edition of the International Children’s Film Festival at Hyderabad once again proved that language and age was no barrier for enjoying films.

It was inspiring to see both adults and the young watching films in different languages. Well-known actor and director Satish Kaushik, who is part of the jury this year, says, “The children’s film festival venue is buzzing with activity and each film is as good as the other. It’s not an easy task to be on the jury, to judge the films in terms of screenplay, direction, storyline or acting. This has made me change my plans and stay back in Hyderabad till the closing ceremony. There are films revolving around friendship between children, children and animals, parent-child relationship, teacher-student relationship and so on.

“Children are instinctively fearless. They are adventurous. They fight all odds to succeed and have great potential to combat problems. They ensure that a film is completed in the manner that it is originally conceived by the director. It’s great to be inspired by these qualities in the young minds.”
