Vaishali mob lynches police after mishap
Patna: Security in Vaishali district’s Lalganj was beefed up after a police official was lynched to death by unruly mob on Wednesday. Police sources said, violence erupted in Lalganj after two persons died in a road accident which led a unit from local police station reach the spot to disperse the crowd.
Local SHO Ajit Kumar was leading his unit and fired in the air in an attempt to stop a clash between two groups. The incident occurred when unruly mob had attacked the house of auto rickshaw driver responsible for the accident in which two persons were killed.
Sources said, the mob had torched his house when police tried to intervene. The angry mob they said, started pelting stones at the police trying to chase them away and in the process got hold of Ajit Kumar, the SHO and lynched him on the middle of the road.
According to reports which reached police headquarters in Patna after the incident stated, “Ajit Kumar was caught by the unruly mob and was lynched but died while on his way to the hospital.”
Reacting on the issue Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Wednesday ordered a high level probe into the matter and asked senior police officials to camp in Lalgunj area. Sources informed that the “situation is still tensed in Lalganj area”. No fresh incident has been reported after police launched a massive patrolling in the area.
