Police tech-tower at Mangalagiri
Guntur: The AP police will build a dedicated office from where officials will use technology to deal with crime. The four-storey tech tower costing '10.67 crore is expected to be built in Mangalagiri in the capital region. The state government on Wednesday approved DGP J.V. Ramudu's proposals to set up the office.
According to the police, the Police Computer Services and Standardisation and Police Communications Organisation will be housed in the tower.
Mr Ramudu said that in view of criminals using advanced technology and communications, the police had proposed to bring its two technological wings, the PCS &S and PCO, under one umbrella.
The building with state of the art equipment is proposed to be built in a 5,000-square metre area in the premises of the APSP’s 6th Batallion at Mangalagiri. The Tech Tower will have an area of 34,100 sq. ft overall, with 8,525 sq. ft in each floor. The building will be structurally designed to allow for an additional two floors at a later date.
Since 1948, the PCO provides communication facilities to the police and requires a lot of tech support and space to operate in view of the increased responsibilities.
The PCS&S, set up in 1999, oversees the computerisation of police facilities and has facilities to develop software applications, capacity building, design and standardising departmental procedures.
