Pampa flooded after rain

Kochi: Heavy rains lashed Sabarimala Sannidhanam and Pampa on Wednesday forcing the authorities to impose curbs on the movement of devotees from Pampa to Sannidhanam and Sannidhanam to Pampa, according to information reaching here. The authorities are also apprehensive of flash floods in the area.

The parking areas in Manappuram and Pampa were inundated forcing the people to tie vehicles to prevent the possibility of them being swept away, sources said. Unconfirmed reports also said that nearly a dozen people who have gone to Kunnar Dam from the Sannidhanam are stranded in forest areas and forest department officials have mounted search operations for them. Sources also said water level in River Pampa has been rising and restrictions were imposed on bathing in the river.

The Sabarimala pilgrimage season began on Tuesday, drawing thousands of pilgrims from across the country to the forest temple.
