Only emergency vehicles on Gough Road, says Army
No pedestrian, RTC bus or private vehicle will be allowed
Hyderabad: The Army has made it clear that only emergency vehicles will be allowed through Gough Road once it is closed. No pedestrian, RTC bus or private vehicle will be allowed. Meanwhile, the Christians of Marredpally complained that the military hospital was their only route to All Saints Church and that now they would have to take the Trimulgherry Road. The short-cuts from Trimulg-herry to West Marredpally will now see an increase in traffic.
Simultaneously all traffic from A.S. Rao Nagar, Saninikpuri and R.K. Puram will be diverted to Safilguda, Malkajgiri and then to AOC swimming pool leading to East and West Marredpally. Ms Sujatha Swamy, a resident of Dr A.S. Rao Nagar said, “My daughter studies at St Andrew’s School in East Marredpally. The main route for us is the road from RK Puram flyover to Gough Road, AOC swimming pool and East Marredpally. Now the bus driver will have to either come through Safilguda or go around Trimulgherry. Children will get delayed.”
Another resident Ms. N. Shradha of R.K. Puram said, “I work at the HDFC Bank’s West Marredpally branch. My only route is via Gough Road. If I have to take the Trimulgherry Road I will have to go up to Kharkhana PS, then Ghanshyam super market and then to West Marredpally. I am not familiar with the route.” The Army authorities have already put up gates at Allahabad and Wellington entrances.
Mr Pankaj Sethi, a resident of Balaji Nagar said that people from Neredmet, A.S. Rao Nagar, Sainikpuri, Yapral, Balaji Nagar, Kowkoor, Bolarum and Alwal will be the worst affected.
In a statement the Army said that only ambulances, fire engines and private vehicles carrying critical patients will be allowed on Gough Road. This road has no private establishments. The Army authorities have not said whether school buses or autos carrying Army officials' children will be allowed on the road. The Army authorities have already put up gates at Allahabad and Wellington entrances.
