Kollam: At 22, Chithra is youngest panchayat president
Kollam: A 22-year-old girl will lead the Elamadu Panchayat here in Ayoor. She will be sworn in as its president on Thursday.
Chithra of Kochukonam Puthiyadathu Veedu contested took the plunge as a CPM candidate while doing her PGDCA. She is the district’s youngest panchayat president.
She was busy attending bank coaching classes and PGDCA after completing her B.Com from the St. John’s College in Anchal when she got the call.
The post was reserved for women from scheduled caste. Her father Atmanandan is casual labour while her mother Sheeba works at a private cashew processing unit. Her brother Bipin is an electrician.
“I got the chance unexpectedly. I’m happy in the new role,” said Ms Chitra, who’s also active in the SFI. The LDF came into power by winning 11 of the panchayat’s 17 the seats.
