Kerala: Railways to ensure hygiene of vendors

A special drive has been launched on the occasion of Sabarimala season

Kochi: Southern Railway and Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) have taken measures to enable devotees have a smooth and hygienic pilgrimage this time over.

While railways have launched a special drive during which personal hygiene of railway vendors will be checked along with other routine procedures, KSRTC issued a circular asking those staff who "don't have drinking habits and against whom no complaints have been raised by commuters so far" to volunteer themselves for Sabarimala duty.

"A special drive has been launched on the occasion of Sabarimala season during which personal hygiene of railway vendors will also be ensured besides checking the quality of food materials and price," said P Santosh Kumar, Food Safety Officer, Southern Railway.

The stalls at stations from Ernakulam to Kayamkulam will be inspected and their owners trained to ensure customer satisfaction. "The drive will last for the whole of Sabarimala season. A meet is scheduled at Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday to decide on other activities," he said.

Meanwhile, the KSRTC has rolled out a memorandum (No 2079 /04/11/15) asking those employees who don't have drinking problems and against whom no passenger complaints have been lodged to report for duty for the Pampa-Nilackal chain services.
