Forensic reports confirm remains found in Raigad forest belong to Sheena Bora

The officials from Raigad had buried the skeleton after they found it in 2012

Mumbai: Stamping conformation, the central forensics team has established that the human remains procured from Raigad forest belong to Sheena Bora, and she was strangled.

Earlier in September, the Mumbai police had collected skull and DNA samples of the body recovered from Pen in Raigad and confirmed that they belonged to Sheena Bora. The then Mumbai police commissioner Rakesh Maria also confirmed later that the DNA report conclusively proved that Indrani Mukerjea was Sheena Bora’s biological mother.

The Mumbai police exhumed body parts with the help of Raigad local police and villagers and sent the remains to the Forensic Science Laboratory at Kalina for a DNA test.

Indrani was arrested on August 25 and was in police custody till September 7 when she was remanded to judicial custody after which she was lodged in the Byculla women’s jail. As she holds British nationality, members from British Council had offered her legal aid.

She, along with her first husband Sanjeev Khanna and driver Shamvar Rai, allegedly murdered her daughter Sheena, burnt her body and dumped it in forested area of Pen, Raigad. The case has been transferred from Khar police to CBI to check if any alleged financial embezzlement done by Indrani involved Sheena, which ultimately led to the latter’s murder.
