Flood-hit farmers will get compensation: Jayalalithaa

Stating that enumeration of rain-affected hutments and houses, besides loss of cattle and damage to boats had started, she said she has ordered speedy disbursal of compensation to these people.

“I had ordered officials to take preventive steps to prevent any kind of damage when there is heavy rain even before northeast monsoon begins. Based on which all our departments had taken steps to prevent damage.” Power had been restored in 683 village panchayats, highways repaired and smooth flow traffic has been ensured.

As people from flood affected areas, including Tambaram and Mudichur have been moved to safer places, police security has been provided to their houses and property.

Jayalalithaa also said as release of surplus water from Poondi reservoir has been reduced to 800 cusecs, normalcy would get restored in areas surrounded by water.

“Barring a few streets in Velachery, Nanganallur and Madipakkam areas, where there is excessive stagnation of rainwater, power supply has been restored in other areas in Chennai.” The state government has deployed 500 staff from various areas of Tangedco in areas like Tambaram, Mudichur and Perungalathur to restore power supply to these places on a war footing. Earlier, Jayalalithaa held a meeting with ministers and officials to review the situation and steps taken for flood relief.
