Election Commission tells Telangana government to clarify on ‘sops’
Every polling station will get an armed cop to maintain security
Hyderabad: The Election Commission has sought clarification from Chief Secretary Rajiv Sharma on Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s announcements during the Warangal bypoll campaign. Chief Electoral Officer Bhanwarlal told newsmen on Wednesday that following the complaints the EC received from various political parties, the Chief Secretary has been asked to explain how the CM recently announced supplying of fine rice to hostels, extension of Kalyana Lakshmi scheme to BCs and also declaring the Christmas a state festival.
“It is not a good practice to announce any new schemes or projects when the model code of conduct is in force. The code would be in vogue till November 24,” the CEO said. With regard to other nine complaints received from TRS, BJP and Congress, the EC will take necessary action after a scrutiny of the petitions, he said. The CEO asked all the political leaders, including Union and state ministers, former ministers and legislators to leave Warangal parliamentary constituency by 5 pm of November 19 to pave the way for bypoll to be conducted in a peaceful manner.
He said 20 paramilitary forces have been deployed, in addition to police personnel, to ensure smooth conduct of the poll. Every polling station will get an armed cop to maintain security, he said.
