Kochi: It would not have crossed the mind of Rahul Pashupalan that a few who rubbed shoulders with him in the kiss of love campaign would later prove decisive in his arrest in an immoral trafficking case.
Three Kiss of Love activists who are running a Facebook page Sexually Frustrated Mallu (SFM) gave leads to the cops which led to the arrest of one of the accused. “A screen shot with a phone number of one of the accused in the case was handed over to the police which proved vital in the case”, a complainant in the case told Deccan Chronicle on condition of anonymity.
The police initially registered the case based on a complaint by the Commission for Child Rights but the cops received leads from the persons behind the SFM page. The SFM Facebook page filed a complaint on March 14 that several Facebook pages with paedophile content was active. The cops conducted an investigation but later they informed the complainant that they had not got any lead in the case in April. Later the page Kochu Sundarikal resurfaced and they filed a fresh complaint on September 7.
Rahul is not booked in the Facebook related case but in another case registered as Crime 34 of 2015. Cops have registered section 370 (1) of IPC (Whoever, knowingly or having reason to believe that a minor has been trafficked, engages such minor for sexual exploitation in any manner)and various sections under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
“We were not aware that Rahul was involved in the case. We are standing for a cause”, one of the administrators of the SFM facebook page said.
