Woot gaming centre to reopen
Kochi: Gaming enthusiasts in Kochi will have a good reason to cheer this month. Woot, the first multi format gaming centre in Kochi, is all set to re-open on November 21 in a new avatar in a more spacious location at Arammal Towers on the Kaloor-Kadavanthra Road. Its earlier location was in Palarivattom.
The owners decided to change the parlour’s location to Kadavanthra owing to better space availability and location advantage. Woot offers Motion Gaming, Laser Tag, Console, Pool table, Foosball table etc. It is the first and only Lounge in Kerala to offer Laser Tag, a laser gun version of paintball.
The lounge was popular with people of all age groups from different walks of life from school kids to IT professionals. The owner says, “Many young parents used to bring their children here to spend some quality time with them. It is not uncommon for parents to be seen playing motion games like Tennis, Star Wars, Bowling with their children and often jumping and screaming along with them”.
There was also a good response from women as well. The owner has seen many women gamers who easily beat their male counterparts in games such as counter-strike, thereby breaking gender stereotypes.
Woot has attracted the attention of companies such as NVDA and Logitech which are eager to expand to tier two cities. Apart from video games, the place also offers a dedicated café, book section and of course, free Wi-Fi.
The Woot used to organize live football screenings, music shows and stand-up comedies regularly. One of the owners, Noorul Hijaz describes the place as a “cultural melting pot, which has something for everyone and not just gamers”.
