Tour operators call to rationalise vehicle tax

‘This quarterly tax of Rs 893 per seat is being continued even after bifurcation of AP’

Hyderabad: The Telangana government is sitting on the rationalisation of quarterly motor vehicle tax due to which tours and travel operators are ending up paying more tax.

A quarterly tax of Rs 893 has to be paid for each seat. For example, if it’s a 22-seater vehicle, the quarterly MV tax comes to Rs 19,646, and in case of 40-seater bus the taxation comes to Rs 35,720.

“This quarterly tax of Rs 893 per seat is being continued even after bifurcation of the state."

"Telangana has 10 districts and the tax has to be rationalised and fixed for 10 districts. We represented the matter to transport minister, Dr P. Mahender Reddy. But no action was taken even after assurance from the minister,” said Telangana State Cabs and Bus Operators Association, president Syed Nizamuddin.

According to vehicle owners, the Telangana government should either rationalise the quarterly tax for 10 districts.
