Thiruvananthapuram: Ambulance topples with mishap victim
Three others recuperating in hospital
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: An ambulance carrying a severely injured 63-year-old accident victim turned turtle in front of a private hospital at Neyyatinkara and the patient succumbed to injuries a few hours later.
Three others including the ambulance driver are recuperating in the hospital. The victim identified as Indira Francis, 60, was travelling in an SUV from Tirunelveli to Thiruvananthapuram airport in the wee hours of Tuesday with her two sons when their vehicle rammed into an electric pole at Pravachambalam.
“Mrs Indira’s younger son Subahar, 23 was driving the car. They were going to drop her elder son Aldo Baby, 38 at the airport. He was supposed to catch a flight. The vehicle lost control and rammed against an electric pole on Karamana-Kaliyikkavila highway,” said city traffic police officials.
On receiving a distress call, the 108 ambulance rushed to the spot and attended to the three victims. The vehicle which was headed to NIMS hospital, Neyyatinakara toppled as it entered the hospital premises.
The ambulance driver Praveen suffered minor injuries and the para medical staff escaped unhurt. Indira who was rushed to the emergency care section passed away a few minutes later and the body was handed over to relatives in the afternoon.
