Sabarimala Yatra: Teams to check tourist buses

Plea to engage drivers who have valid driving licence

Ongole: The transport officials to check driving licenses of tourist bus drivers carrying devotees to Sabarimala from Tuesday on the NH-5 in Prakasam district to check road accidents. The officials' team will stop every bus and check the driving licence of drivers.

If the driver does not possess a valid driving licence, they will book cases and stop the vehicle. The officials also decided to stop devotees going on Lorries to Sabarimala at check-posts of transport department.

The officials urged the devotees going to Sabarimala to check driving licences of tourist bus drivers and vehicle fitness certificate of the bus, as a precautionary measure. They took this decision, because the number of devotees going to Sabarimala will gradually increase.

As a result, the demand for tourist buses will also increase. When the demand is increased, they may engage drivers who are not having valid driving licences, which will lead to road accidents.

They advised the devotees going by car or vans to engage at least two drivers having valid driving licences for safety and made it clear that if they engage drivers who are not having driving licences they would have to face problem because the officials will check the driving licences.

If they find that the driver does not possess a valid driving license, they would stop the bus or van, then the devotees would have to face the problem.

Taking the problem into consideration, the officials requested the devotees engaged drivers having experience and valid driving licence to avoid further problems.

They warned that they will stop the devotees if they engage a lorry to go to Sabarimala and requested them to give priority for safety.

Special teams will check driving licences of drivers engaged to go to Sabarimala till the completion of Makara Jyothi Darshan.

Deputy transport commissioner K. Krishnaiah said “The transport officials will check driving licences of drivers driving the buses that go to Sabarimala on the national highway in Prakasam district as a precautionary measure. He urged the devotees to engage drivers having valid driving licences and buses in good condition."
