Rajesh Lakhoni to be Tamil Nadu chief electoral officer?
He is also serving as energy secretary for the past two years
Chennai: Senior IAS officer Rajesh Lakhoni’s name on Tuesday made rounds as the next Tamil Nadu Chief electoral officer, replacing Sandeep Saxena. Lakhoni is now secretary of two important departments, energy and agriculture.
He has been a low profile, no-nonsense officer. Highly placed sources with election commission and Tamil Nadu secretariat hinted that orders are expected in a week.
The soft-spoken Lakhoni was the Chennai corporation commissioner during 2006- 2010 handling operations after 2005 flash floods. During his stint as corporation commissioner, a record number of new bridges was inaugurated in city.
As agriculture secretary, Lakhoni recently created a system under which farmers can either avail government funds for fertilisers or procure fertilisers of their choice from the agriculture department.
He is also serving as energy secretary for the past two years. The officer is an engineer by training and is an alumnus of the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology.
After serving as collector of Perambalur, Kanyakumari and Theni districts, he assumed charge as deputy commissioner of corporation (works) in early 2000. When contacted, Rajesh Lakhoni maintained that his elevation as CEO was only a rumour
