New twist to Tipu Jayanti victim killing case
Bengaluru: Who shot Shahul Hamid, 27, when he was travelling in a convoy of vehicles along with people who supported celebrations to mark the birth anniversary of Tipu Sultan in Madikeri town last week?
Sources close to home minister Dr G Parameshwar told Deccan Chronicle that the bullet which felled Hamid was fired from a .32 weapon, and not a .38 service revolver used by police officers. In fact, there were no policemen in the vicinity when the incident occurred.
Ballistic experts opined that Hamid was killed by a bullet fired from .32 weapon owned by some individuals. In the aftermath of this incident, local police officers are collecting details of licensed owners of that particular weapon in and around Neerkoolli village as well as bullets possessed by them. These details would be matched with the bullet that struck Hamid.
“We are zeroing in on the culprits and are sure that we will be able to nab them as early as possible”.
Sources refuted allegations of BJP leaders that miscreants chased local VHP organising secretary, D.S. Kuttappa (67) and attacked him on his head with a stone. The home minister visited the spot where Mr Kuttappa fell from a height of 10-12 feet wall that had no parapet. Upon inspection and discussion with local police it was found that Mr Kuttappa fell in the ditch while trying to escape from policemen.
Sources pointed that a preliminary report submitted by Inspector General of Police (southern range) B.K. Singh to DG&IGP Omprakash and the home minister stated that Kodagu SP was on duty and not on holiday as claimed by opposition party leaders. However, the deputy commissioner was on leave but the additional deputy commissioner was appointed in-charge of Tipu birth anniversary celebrations.
Sources said the home department was collecting details on activities of Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) which had been accused of inciting violence in Madikeri town on November 10. “We are computing details about SDPI before taking any action,” sources added.
