LDF set to wrest Thrissur corporation
LDF, being the single largest bloc, is all set to win the posts of the mayor and the deputy mayor
Thrissur: The LDF which made unexpected gains in the Thrissur corporation election hopes to wrest the control of the civic body from the United Democratic Front (UDF) and fielded CPM’s Ajitha Jayarajan as its mayoral candidate.
With the support of a rebel candidate, the LDF has the support of 26 members in the 55-member council. Even though the CPI had claimed the post of the deputy mayor, the front has not reached a conclusion on whom to be made the candidate.
The UDF has 20 councilors in the council while the two Congress rebels have not yet made their stand clear on their allegiance.
As the attempt of Cooperation Minister C N Balakrishnan to make his daughter C B Geetha the mayor with the support of six BJP councilors and Congress rebels failed to bear fruit, both the UDF and the BJP will be fielding separate mayor candidates.
LDF, being the single largest bloc, is all set to win the posts of the mayor and the deputy mayor. The LDF had ruled the civic body during 2005-2010 and lost in the 2010 election.
