Kozhikode waits for VKC Mammed Koya, politician-turned-businessman

City dwellers feel Mr Koya’s dispensation would be corruption-free
KOZHIKODE: V.K.C. Mammed Koya stepping into the mayor’s shoes lights many a mind as they pin their hopes in the gentle leader with simple ways. He has already proved his mettle in all realms of service, trade union activism and industry.
There was a murmuring campaign that he was the mayoral candidate, and it helped the LDF gain an edge over the UDF. The business and industry forums are the happiest.
District Merchants’ Association president C.E. Chakkunni said the trading community was pleased to get a person like him at the helm of affairs.
“He knows our real issues,” he told DC, adding that the licensing system in the corporation with many loopholes for corruption is in a terrible shape.
City dwellers feel Mr Koya’s dispensation would be corruption-free.
They believe he will be able to extract maximum funds for development as he is very much aware of as a legislator earlier the ways and means to tap government resources.
Malabar Chamber of Commerce former president Alok Kumar Sabu said the corporation would benefit from his expertise.
“VKC started from zero and created a business empire with sheer hard work and managerial skills,” he told DC. “He is a modern communist with administrative skills. He’s committed to people as well as his party.”
“Though he is representing a party that ruled or spoiled the city for the last forty years, we have hope in this man,” said P.T.S. Unni of Calicut Chamber of Commerce. “Hope he would change the present gloom in the industry and instill hope.”
