Four children killed in wall collapse at Sambepalli

The old wall collapsed following incessant rains since four days

Anantapur: In a tragic incident four children were killed after an old wall fell on them at Rowthukunta Boyapalle village in Sambepalli mandal of Kadapa district. Deceased were identified as B. Shiva Kumar, 12, Y. Ganesh, 7, Vasu and M. Ganesh, 7 of Rowthukunta Boyapalle who went to play near a wall on Monday night. All the four children died after wall collapsed on them.

The bodies were recovered after removing the debris. The old wall collapsed following incessant rains since four days in the district, the officials said. In another incident, a four-year-old boy Harsha Vardhan of Settigunta railway station area in Railway Koduru mandal died in another wall collapse incident.

A woman Chandrakala, 21, died at Kalasamudram in Kadiri mandal in Anantapur district during roof collapse on Tuesday. However, her 15-day-old infant had a miraculous escape in the incident. Four more persons sustained injuries.

Heavy rains reported at Rai-lway Kodur and Rajampeta areas in Kadapa district on Tuesday. At least 50 villages had no road access following overflowing of rivers and channels. Two NDRF teams were deputed to Kadapa district for rescue operations.

About 80 mm rainfall was reported in Kalasapadu mandal in Kadapa district on Tuesday. Officials evacuated people from Gandhi Nagar and surrounding low-lying areas in Railway Kodur. Road connectivity was cut to Obulavaripalle mandal headquarters.
