During a review meeting with the BBMP commissioner and BDA chief, the leaders discussed a plan to ease traffic congestion and provide better infrastructure. Mr George told the media that the draft Master Plan for BDA will be ready by the year-end.
With land acquisition problems sure to spring up during the peripheral ring road project, the government has decided to take the safe way out by making affected land owners partners in the project.
To ease traffic congestion in the city, the state government has decided to take up a few long-term projects including improving connectivity in Whitefield, construction of peripheral ring road and preparing a master plan for Bengaluru for 2030.
CM Siddaramaiah held a review meeting with Bengaluru development minister K.J. George, the BBMP commissioner, BDA commissioner and other stake holders here on Tuesday and discussed a long-term plan to ease traffic congestion and provide better infrastructure.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Mr George said that the government will announce the draft master plan for BDA by the end of this year. The master plan will be prepared for 2030. Due to absence of a master plan, the government has not been able to accord sanction for development activities in peripheral areas of the city. To construct the peripheral ring road, the government is facing land acquisition problems, so it has decided to construct the road under a joint development plan with land owners. If land owners come forward to give land for the peripheral road, government will help the land owners develop their land and will consider them partners in the project, Mr. George said.
To execute this plan, government will form a committee, in which both government and non-government officials will be members. The government will construct 65 km of the ring road which will give a connection to NICE road. The BDA has acquired 1900 acres of land for the project and it will need 800 acres more.
The government has decided to evolve a long term project to ease traffic congestion in Whitefield. Since there are no connecting and interior roads in Whitefield, government has decided to develop connecting and interior roads in that area as a long term plan.
To develop Bengaluru International Airport Area Planning Authority and Bengaluru Metropolitan Region Development Authority, government will soon come up with a masterplan. The Government has also decided to provide 3500 additional BMTC buses in the city.
