Bengaluru-based newspaper circulation agent dies in accident
BENGALURU: A Bengaluru-based newspaper circulation agent died on the spot while his wife suffered grievous injuries in a road accident when the car he was driving rammed into by a mini-lorry in a head-on collision, near Allur Gate, about 15 kilometres from Gonikoppa under Periyapatna police station limits in Mysuru district on Monday morning.
The deceased has been identified as George Manohar, 49, and his injured wife Latha George, both residents of Koramangala in the city.
According to the Periyapatna police the accident happened between 6:45 and 7:15 a.m when George was driving his Maruti Swift car to Bengaluru from Gonikoppa. A speeding Mahindra Nissan mini-lorry, heading towards Gonikoppa, came to the right side of the road and collided head-on with George’s car. The car had passed the Anechowkuru check, the police added.
George sustained fatal injuries and died instantly while his wife Latha sustained shoulder injuries and was rushed to Apollo Hospital in Mysuru where she is said to be out of danger. The driver of the mini-lorry also sustained injuries in the accident and is undergoing treatment at a private hospital under police supervision. The mini-lorry has been seized by the police.
“We suspect that the driver of the mini-lorry may have fallen asleep while behind wheels, leading to the accident,” a senior police officer said. George’s body was shifted to K.R. Hospital in Mysuru for post-mortem and later handed over to his family members.
A case of accidental death due to rash and negligent driving has been registered at the Periyapatna police station and the police are investigating it further.
