Android apps still a far-fetched dream for Windows 10 users

Microsoft hinted that the Astoria Bridge project was not moving according to plan

Mumbai: Back in April 2015, Microsoft unveiled a dicey project to incorporate Android, iOS, and other web-based apps to the Windows 10 platform. Android, iOS web developers from around the globe were requested to bring their apps to smartphones and tablets running on Windows 10.

However, the Project named Astoria was subjected to a lot of criticism, as it was never released publicly.

After eight months since the initiation of the project, Microsoft has confirmed that it has postponed the launch of the Android app development tool for an indistinct period, which is designed to make Android apps run on Windows 10 phones and tablets.

Microsoft also told Re/Code that the Astoria Bridge—essentially for Android app developers—was not moving as intended, but other tools for iOS and web developers are geared up.

The Redmond-based company hasn’t been performing well in the smartphone segment for an extensive phase and this is one of the major reasons why it has failed to lure in more developers to build apps for Windows 10.

However, with Windows 10, app developers have the freedom to write universal codes, which will run on all windows based phones, tablets, PCs, and even Xbox consoles.

Microsoft is looking forward to having a billion Windows 10 users within the next three years, and one of the ways for Microsoft to attract more mobile users and increase sales is through the development of more windows apps.
