Smell the coffee at museum in Hassan

Coffee Board venture will provide visitors with history besides information on coffee with short films
Hassan: A Coffee Museum by Coffee Board would be coming up in Hassan on the lines of a museum in Chikkamagaluru. The museum which will be thrown open to public soon will provide the visitors with the history besides basic information on coffee with short films. Joint Director of Coffee Board, Hemanth Kumar told Deccan Chronicle on Monday that the museum would be replica of a museum in Chikkamagaluru which is drawing a good number of visitors to it. A museum in Hassan would help students in particular to know about the cultivation aspects of coffee, specimens and other basic information about the crop and coffee growing areas in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and other States. “The Museum would help visitors’ access information on coffee at the touch of a button besides short films would give a clear picture on coffee and films would be interesting for visitors to know about coffee,” the Joint Director felt. For the museum to come up, a building is ready at the Industrial Area here. Besides, the museum would also a laboratory for soil testing.
The Coffee Museum at Chikkamagaluru started about a decade back has been attracting visitors particularly on holidays and Coffee Board Deputy Director of Chikkamagaluru, Thimmaraju said “Here, the staff explains about different types of coffee to the visitors with the help of a compact disc player at the museum and the response to the museum has been good.”
Mr Thimmaraju said the museum furnishes details on coffee specimens and its cultivation aspects besides queries on the crop to the visitors. A top hotel in Mumbai has been linked to the Coffee Museum at Chikkamagaluru and visitors are ferried to the museum during their visit to Chikkamagaluru, said Mr Hemanth Kumar adding that same arrangements could be made to bring in visitors to the Museum at Hassan.
