Over 1,000 business women to attend Kochi Women Entrepreneurship summit

Kochi: Wal-Mart vice-president and head-corporate affairs Rajneesh Kumar will attend the Women Entrepreneurship (WE) summit Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC) is organising in Kochi for the women entrepreneurs in Kerala, opening up a channel of communication with the global retail major.

“Our aim is to give the women who run micro enterprises in the state a chance to interact with global chains which are interested in sourcing their goods from Kerala,” KSIDC managing director M Beena told reporters here.

“We also expect meaningful exchange of ideas with the retail chains so that the companies can chart their future keeping the opportunities in mind.”

More than 1000 women entrepreneurs – most of them running micro enterprises – will attend the one-day summit which Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will inaugurate on November 19.

One of the highligi hts of the summit will be the opportunity to interact with successful women entrepreneurs from all over the country, Dr Beena said.

Agencies which specialize in promoting women’s enterprises in terms of consultancy and finance will also be represented at the summit, she said, adding it will be a unique opportunity for the Kerala entrepreneurs.

The focus areas of the meet will be food processing and hitech farming, garment and fashion design, retailing opportunities for micro, small and medium enterprises, and souring of funds, Dr Beena said.

KSIDC has empanelled management institutes in three districts to help the small enterprises get a firm grip on documentation, she said.

“Most entrepreneurs have brilliant ideas and the will to work hard but hardly have the knowledge about statutory matters,’ she said.

“The management institutes will help them get over this handicap.” KSIDC will sign formal memoranda of understanding with the institutions later to formalize the arrangement, she said.
