Kochi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has decided to take over further investigation related to the revelations of P A Shahanas, a confidant of alleged Indian Mujahideen operative Thadiyantavide Nazeer, made to the police after his arrest on Saturday. The anti-terror agency is expected to send a request in this regard to the ministry of home affairs on Tuesday.
Police is also searching for one Taslim from Kannur, who reportedly accompanied Shahanas and tried to influence the witnesses in Bangalore blast case as directed by Nazeer.
When decoded the letters seized from Shahanas, a major plan to sabotage Bangalore blast case was revealed, He also disclosed some crucial details when questioned.
It prompted the NIA to take over the probe.
Its officials in Kochi had interrogated Shahanas soon after his arrest. The Bangalore Police, headed by DCP (crime) Jithendranath also questioned him in custody in the presence of city police.
The team will be here for two more days for detailed questioning. The Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Court on Monday granted his police custody for eight days for questioning instead of ten days it requested.
The court also directed the police to carry out his medical examination every second day. This direction was since the submission of Shahanas that he had undergone surgery for appendix very recently.
The police informed the court that Shahanas had been maintaining a close link with Nazeer and also handed over the letters, emails, key of fetter, mobile phones and SIM cards which were seized from him and his house.
He also attempted to sabotage Bangalore blast case. Police wants to take him to various places in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu for gathering evidence.
The eight letters seized from him have been decoded, and a few details have come to light.
